Current On-Campus Library Services

Current On-Campus Services

Maynooth University Library will continue to provide essential services to support staff, students and researchers throughout the period of Level 5 restrictions.  This will include maintaining access to online resources, to our Library study spaces, and to as much physical material as possible. Details of all our services, and how to access them, are set out below.

Please use our online services and content first and consider carefully if you need to avail of our on-campus services. Face coverings must be worn at all times when visiting the Library.

Studying in the Library

  • Study spaces will be available on a limited, bookable basis.  You must book a study space before arriving at the library.
  • All study spaces are at least 2 metres apart. Please sit in the designated locations and do not move furniture for any reason or length of time.
  • Please observe cough etiquette and 2 metres social distancing.
  • Wipes to wipe down study spaces are available at the Admissions Desk.
  • With the exception of bottled drinks, food and drink is not allowed in the Library.
  • Please use hand sanitiser before and after browsing books on open shelves.
  • When finished using a book, it should be placed on the nearest available trolley. Books should not be re-shelved.
  • When leaving the building for any length of time, including breaks, please ensure that all books are placed back on trolleys and you take all of your personal belongings. Capacity is being strictly managed and you may not be able to re-enter the Library

Preparing for your Visit

Inside the Library

  • Face coverings are compulsory at all times in the library: this includes while studying at your seat and walking around.

Digital on Demand

The library is currently offering a ‘digital on demand’ service for library material digitization requests.  This service is free of charge and available for staff and postgraduate students only.  Digital on demand refers to some material which cannot be borrowed or if you cannot physically make it to the library on campus.

How does it work?

  • Items can be requested using this form
  • Upon submission of a request you must accept our copyright declaration stating that you only use the content in support of your remote teaching needs for the duration of the Covid-19 situation, that you only host this content on MU controlled access education platforms e.g. Moodle and MS Teams and that you only use this copy for non-commercial research, teaching or private study.  You must also permanently delete the copy if requested to do by the Library or the copyright holder
  • Once the library receives the submission, library staff will create a scanned copy of the requested article or book chapter and this will be emailed to the requestor
