MURAL stands for Maynooth University Research Archive Library. It is an institutional repository which makes the research output of staff and postgraduate students at Maynooth University and St Patrick's College freely available online.
MURAL was formerly known as ePrints, and was renamed following a competition in October 2018. The name was suggested by Sean Ó Riogáin, a student, and Paddy Reilly, a staff member, with Sean additionally suggesting the acronym meaning which was chosen.
Open Access is an international movement to make research publications freely available to the international research community in order to stimulate further research. Any person who can connect to the internet can access Open Access material freely. They can also download, print and distribute these articles provided the author of the article is properly acknowledged and cited. The potential readership of Open Access articles exceeds that of articles where the full-text is restricted to subscribers.
You can learn more about Open Access in our Research Guide for Open Access.
