Library Zones

Where can I talk? 

Conversation is allowed in certain areas, noisy behaviour is not acceptable.

There in one room for dedicated silent study within the library. It is a space for people wishing to study alone in a silent environment. The swipe access has been implemented to ensure that those choosing to use the room respect the silent element of the space. This is to help reduce noise disturbances. For bookable, collaborative spaces you are welcome to use the group study rooms.

RED

SILENT ZONE 

The silent study room on level two.
The area outside the Special Collections and Archive reading room.

No talking in these spaces.
Suitable for individual study only.
Leave the room if you need to talk.
No food.

 

AMBER

QUIET ZONE 

The stairwells.
The open desk spaces in the East and West wings of the library.
Between the library stacks/shelves.
The postgraduate room.

Short discreet interaction.
Devices on silent.
Please leave the area for phone calls.

Drinks in reusable cups.
No food.

GREEN

CONVERSATIONAL ZONE 

All the ground floor before the turnstiles.
All group study rooms.
The flexible learning room/whiteboard room.
The print hubs.

Talking is expected in these zones.
Food before the turnstiles.
Suitable for individual or group collaboration.
Phones, laptops, and computers can have volume on.
