This guide provides details of open access agreements with publishers facilitated by IReL (Irish Research eLibrary) which typically allow corresponding authors from eligible institutions to publish their articles open access immediately on publication.

Agreement Period:

IReL is currently in negotiations with the publisher for a new agreement from 2025. We will update this page when a new agreement is finalised.

Agreement details
Current staff and students from Maynooth University can make articles accepted for publication in eligible ECS journals open access, without the author paying an article processing charge (APC).

Eligible authors
At the time of manuscript submission, authors must select ECS Plus and identify their affiliation to take advantage of this agreement.

At the time an article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author must be a current staff member or student of Maynooth University.


Eligible article types: all article types. 

OA publishing license: ECS offers authors a choice of two Creative Commons licenses, CC BY or CC BY–NC–ND. Further information.
