This guide provides details of open access agreements with publishers facilitated by IReL (Irish Research eLibrary) which typically allow corresponding authors from eligible institutions to publish their articles open access immediately on publication.

Agreement details
This agreement gives current staff and students at Maynooth University:

  1. Access to the contents of Royal Society journals
  2. The ability to make their articles accepted for publication in Royal Society journals, open access without author-facing article processing charges (APCs).

Eligible journals
All eligible corresponding authors affiliated with Maynooth University can publish open access articles in these titles:
•    Biology Letters
•    Interface Focus
•    Journal of the Royal Society Interface
•    Notes and Records of the Royal Society
•    Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A
•    Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B
•    Proceedings of the Royal Society A
•    Proceedings of the Royal Society B
•    Open Biology
•    Royal Society Open Science


 The agreement also provides read access to these titles:

  • Journal of Royal Society Interface
  • Interface Focus
  • Philosophical Transactions A 
  • Proceedings A
  • Philosophical Transactions B
  • Proceedings B
  • Biology Letters
  • Notes and Records

Eligible authors
The corresponding author must be a current staff member or student of a participating institution at the time the article is accepted for publication. The corresponding author must ensure their correct affiliation details are known to the publisher at this time. 

 Eligible article types:

All article types are included in this agreement that have been submitted between 01/01/2021 – 31/12/2023, except Letters to the Editor, Corrections, Retractions.
